Times are hard in Treknow. A fierce giant is stealing all the produce from the Mayor's garden. Even the garden gnomes have deserted him. It is unlikely that Jack will be paid and so he is going to have to sell his car. (He's moved with the times you see). However he is no more sensible and sells it for the traditional five beans, thrown into the Underworld by his Mother, from hence grows a giant beanstalk.

     In the meantime he meets and falls in love with Polly, the teacher to the Mayor's two ghastly little girls.
    After various adventures the story ends traditionally. The baddy gets his comeuppance and everyone else finds true happiness and riches, but not before they have all had a chance to have their say
