DX Hunter is an amateur-radio DX simulation game based on real operating
ideas including propagation, pile-ups, split operation, greyline paths,
DXpeditions, maritime mobile stations and weak-signal working.

QUICK START
-----------

DX Hunter does not need to be installed.

1. Extract the complete DX Hunter archive.
2. Open the extracted DX-Hunter folder.
3. Run:

   ./DX-Hunter

Keep the DX-Hunter executable and the _internal folder together.

OPTIONAL APPLICATION-MENU INSTALLATION
--------------------------------------

If this release includes install.sh, you can install DX Hunter into your
Linux desktop application menu.

From a terminal opened in the extracted DX Hunter folder, run:

   ./install.sh

After installation, DX Hunter should appear in your normal application menu.

The original extracted copy may also continue to be used as a standalone
application.

IF LINUX SAYS THE FILE IS NOT EXECUTABLE
----------------------------------------

Archive extraction should normally preserve the required permissions.

If necessary, open a terminal in the DX Hunter folder and run:

   chmod +x DX-Hunter

and, if using the menu installer:

   chmod +x install.sh

SAVED DATA
----------

DX Hunter stores its local application data under:

   ~/.local/share/DX-Hunter/

This includes locally stored items such as your station QTH, leaderboard,
logbook, awards and preferences.

Deleting the application itself does not automatically delete this saved
data.

INTERNET CONNECTION
-------------------

The core game runs locally.

An internet connection is required for:

- OpenStreetMap map tiles
- Live propagation / solar-condition information

Your saved station QTH and game records are stored locally and are not
included in DX Hunter's live-condition requests.

If the internet connection is unavailable, some online features may be
missing while the local game remains available.

STATION QTH
-----------

Use the QTH control inside DX Hunter to set your station location.

You may enter a 4-, 6- or 8-character Maidenhead locator. DX Hunter converts
the locator to the centre of that Maidenhead square. Latitude and longitude
can then be adjusted manually if desired.

The saved QTH is reused on later launches.

AUDIO
-----

SFX and background radio hiss can be enabled or disabled separately.

The master volume control provides adjustment from -6 dB to +6 dB.
0 dB is the normal/default DX Hunter audio level.

LICENCE
-------

DX Hunter is free software released under the GNU General Public License
version 3 (GPLv3).

Commercial/proprietary licensing may also be available separately.

See:

   LICENSE
   THIRD_PARTY_LICENSES.txt

for the full DX Hunter licence and information about third-party components.

PRIVACY

DX Hunter does not include advertising, analytics, cross-site tracking or
user profiling.

See the in-application Privacy notice for further details.
