LoTr5. Adventure into the world of spectra.....
Thought I'd delve into the world of spectroscopy. Here is the spectrum of the central star of LoTr5, HD112313, taken on G7 using the spectral filter (blazed in the first order), 90 sec exposure.
From literature I have found that it is a type G5iii. Here is an example:
Well, my first ever spectrum probably isn't the best, and certainly won't win any prizes (well, maybe the wooden spoon), but there are certainly some similarities. I multiplied my spectrum by the reference and got the following result:
Not too sure what all this tells me, when I figure out how to stop the Vis Spec program from crashing (something about the data containing zeros? Not good when the whole PC system is based on binary!) I may find out more. Having to redo all the calibrations from scratch is not a great help :(
Still some work and learning to do. I'm not too sure if the absorption/emission lines should match. They don't seem to in this example, I may have the calibration wrong. Back to the books.....
